Recently I became a Stampin Up! Demonstrator. \u00a0I wanted to do it as a hobby and get the discount, but it’s become a business – which is great! \u00a0However, it seems to have opened up a new\u00a0world of scrapbooking! I feel like I’ve been locked in a dark closet and missed some evolutionary process! \u00a0I’ve been\u00a0scrapbooking on a semi-regular basis for over 10 years. \u00a0Mostly purchasing from Close to My Heart or Stampin Up! \u00a0But the door has opened and I’m seeing something new!<\/p>\n

It all started with the Stampin Up! Project Life Kits. \u00a0I wasn’t really interested in PL. \u00a0I’m a traditionalist – said with nose fully in the air ;-). \u00a0My partner Jenn was all excited to do PL\u00a0so we ordered some of the kits. \u00a0The first ones we purchased were\u00a0Memories in the Making<\/a>\u00a0and Every Day Adventure<\/a>. \u00a0I started looking at the kits and thought they were\u00a0cute, but could not imagine how I was going to put a layout together in all these little pockets. \u00a0I was thinking that I would use the cards as part of a traditional layout. I brought some pictures over and sat down with Jenn and whipped out a 2 page layout. \u00a0A two page layout – using all those little pockets and these cards! \u00a0I loved it!<\/p>\n

It’s been just a few weeks since starting. \u00a0I joined a couple of \u00a0FB Groups, one called Project Life Junkies and one called Scrap Gals Community, both have introduced me to such different thinking!<\/p>\n

I’m seeing the changes in products and perspective.\u00a0 I started hearing about all these other products. \u00a0Project life “core kits”, “mini kits”, “accessory kits” and “overlay kits”. \u00a0I saw Simple Stories being used as a\u00a0pocket scrapbooking brand. \u00a0Apparently it always was, but I didn’t get it! \u00a0I used it for traditional pages! \u00a0I’ve always just documented pictures of my kids that I liked, their special events like birthdays, first days of school, and friends. \u00a0Now our daily planners are little scrapbooks! \u00a0We are PLing by moths and weeks! \u00a0 It’s become a physical FaceBook! \u00a0It’s a different perspective for me, and you know what….I love it! \u00a0I’ve now started my first weekly Project Life album\u00a0for 2016!<\/p>\n

Week 1!<\/p><\/div>\n

It’s funny, when I first started it was with my friend April. \u00a0At the time the style was to cut embellishments and inspiration from anything including cereal boxes, cards, and magazines. \u00a0Stickers were all the rage! \u00a0But as we all know scrapbooking is organic – it grows and changes for all of us. \u00a0When I started out my idea was to\u00a0fit as many pictures on a page as possible. So I printed my pictures 2×3 and put as many on a page as I could fit!\"IMG_8175\"\u00a0Then as I discovered scrapbooking magazines like Creating Keepsakes<\/strong> and Scrapbook and Cards Today, <\/strong>all of which included\u00a0sketches with 4×6 photos, my world changed again! \u00a0A new style started to emerge! \u00a0I was in love with clean lines and minimal embellishments. \u00a0 Then began the emphasis on journaling. \u00a0Honestly, I have never liked\u00a0to journal. It’s intimidating to me and I’ve always struggled with it. Mostly because every example I saw\u00a0in these magazines was computer generated lettering, with the perfect sentiment that was witty. \u00a0It was more than just telling the story or capturing the\u00a0memory – it was, on its own, an embellishment. \u00a0I couldn’t do it, there was too much pressure. \u00a0So I gave up journaling as part of my page design and started journaling on the backs of my pages in my own messy handwriting. With pocket scrapbooking the expectation is that you record the memory, in your own messy handwriting on a pre-designed journaling card. \u00a0It’s taken all the pressure off and it fits my style better!\u00a0 I can add my pictures, the pre-designed cards that match, tell my story in MY handwriting!<\/p>\n

So have I done away with traditional scrapbooking? \u00a0No! \u00a0I’m looking at all the ways I can add my traditional pages to my PL album! \u00a0There are 3 hole 12×12 sleeves that are going to look great in my album!<\/p>\n
